'Jog for Joe' raises over £9,000

A RUN honouring the memory of much-loved Strabane publican, Joe Breslin, has raised over £9,000 for two local causes that carry out outstanding work in the town.
The second 'Jog for Joe' 5k run and walk took place on June 21 with hundreds lacing up their running shoes to join the Breslin family and wider community to honour the man behind Joe's Bar.
The event was a heartfelt tribute to the proud Strabane man who passed away in December 2024 after a battle with illness.
A keen runner, Mr Breslin was also a cherished member of Lifford Strabane AC with the local running community turning out in force in support of the run once again.
Organised by Fountain Street Community Development Association (FSCDA) in conjunction with Mr Breslin's family, the proceeds have been shared between two organisations; Knockavoe School and New Horizons Partnership.
Majella, Joe's wife and their children, Marie and Shane recently met representatives from the chosen charities and handed over cheques for £4,528.96 to each.
Unveiling the grand total, FSCDA project coordinator, Aodhán Harkin, said: "Fountain Street Community Development Association in partnership with the Breslin family are delighted to announce that our recent Jog For Joe event held back in June raised a grand total of £9,057.92 which was an amazing amount of money.
"We are indebted to all the runners, walkers, stewards, caterers, tea ladies, cleaners, sponsors, the business community of Strabane and beyond who helped, donated or played any part whatsoever.
"There are far too many people to name individually and with the fear of omitting someone, this is a general and genuine word of extreme gratitude.
"Go raibh míle, míle maith agaibh go léir.
"On behalf of Fountain Street and the Breslin family we would like to offer our sincere thanks and gratitude to everyone who made this event such a huge success.”
Both organisations have extended heartfelt gratitude to the family for selecting them as beneficiaries of this year’s run.
