RESIDENTS, community organisations, artists and businesses from across Strabane have been sharing their ideas and aspirations for the town's bid to become the first-ever Town of Culture 2028.
A recent creativity engagement event brought together people from a wide range of backgrounds to learn more about the Strabane Town of Culture bid and contribute suggestions that could help shape a future cultural programme for the town.
The event encouraged participants to think boldly about what culture means to them and how it can celebrate Strabane's unique identity, heritage and talent.
Discussions explored opportunities to build on existing cultural, arts and sporting events, while also considering new initiatives that could attract visitors and create lasting benefits for local communities.
Attendees put forward a wide range of ideas, from large-scale festivals and arts projects to smaller community-led initiatives designed to bring people together.
The event highlighted the passion, creativity and civic pride that exists across Strabane and demonstrated the strong appetite for collaboration as the bid progresses.
Arts & Culture manager at Derry City and Strabane District Council, John Kerr, welcomed the positive response from the community.
"One of Strabane's greatest strengths is its people, and it was inspiring to see so many individuals and organisations come together to share their ideas and ambitions for the future,” he said.
“The enthusiasm and creativity shown at this event demonstrates the incredible cultural potential that exists across the town.
"The Town of Culture bid is an opportunity to celebrate everything that makes Strabane unique while creating new opportunities for communities, artists, businesses and visitors.
“ I would encourage everyone to continue getting involved and help shape this exciting journey. “
The ideas gathered during the engagement event will help inform the ongoing development of the Strabane Town of Culture 2028 bid.
If you know Strabane, have an interest in its future and would like to help shape the programme, you can express an interest in joining the group.
