The Cornavarrow Slieveglass Wind Farm Fund, administered by Fermanagh Trust, provides grants to community projects within 5km of the Cornavarrow or Slieveglass Wind Farms, supporting initiatives that strengthen community facilities and encourage social inclusion.

COMMUNITY groups in the Drumquin and Killen areas are being encouraged to apply for funding through the Cornavarrow Slieveglass Wind Farm Fund, with the latest round of funding now open for applications.

Established by leading wind farm owner and operator Energia Group, the fund aims to ensure that the benefits of renewable energy extend beyond environmental gains to positively impact the local community.

Administered by Fermanagh Trust, the fund provides grants to community projects located within 5km of either the Cornavarrow or Slieveglass Wind Farms.

Funding can support a wide range of local projects and activities that strengthen community facilities, encourage social inclusion and enhance opportunities for local residents.

Previous funding rounds have supported a diverse range of initiatives across the Drumquin and Killen areas.

Langfield Primary School received funding to develop a permanent, weatherproof outdoor learning area.

Ardbarron Men’s Shed used its grant to host two inclusive community events, while Killen Rangers FC installed new outdoor seating benches for members and spectators.

Funding also supported DCYC Ltd to continue its youth club activities, while Killen Pride of the Village LOL 1272 installed new equipment in the Orange Hall to support community gatherings.

Rosy Billingham, Energia Renewables Engagement manager, said: "Energia Renewables are proud of our track record of community investment through our wind farm benefit funds, thanks to the support and advice from the Fermanagh Trust, which administers the Wind Farm fund on our behalf.

"The projects we support are providing much-needed local community services and activities, ranging from school infrastructure and community centre improvements through to health and wellbeing initiatives and one-off community events.

"All these initiatives underline Energia's commitment to building stronger, resilient and sustainable communities.”

Lauri McCusker, director of the Fermanagh Trust, welcomed the range of projects being supported: “It is fantastic to see such a wide range of community activity taking place across the Drumquin and Killen areas.
