Oonagh O'Hagan, a native of Plumbridge, has been appointed Group CEO of Meaghers Pharmacy Group.

A TYRONE entrepreneur who founded a Dublin pharmacy business in her 20s is marking 25 years in business with a new role.

Meaghers Pharmacy Group has announced senior leadership changes to guide the company’s next phase of growth.

Oonagh O’Hagan, a native of Plumbridge, is now Group CEO and will focus on long-term strategy, partnerships and governance.

Darren Hardiman has been appointed managing director with responsibility for the day-to-day business and its commercial and digital development.

The new structure will also create opportunities for the next generation of Meaghers leaders.

The leadership changes, together with the next phase of the group’s customer health strategy, were announced to the Meaghers team at the group’s recent 25th anniversary celebration at the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin.

The company has ambitious plans and is predicting €50 million turnover in the next two years, building on a 23 per cent increase in turnover last year to €35.79 million (up from approximately €29.1 million in the previous year) along with a 27 per cent increase in EBIDTA to €1.62 million, up from €1.27 million.

Oonagh started the business when she bought Meaghers Pharmacy on Baggot Street in Dublin from her mentor, Pierce Meagher, when she was in her 20s.

Meaghers now has more than 180 employees across its 10 stores and online operations and is currently recruiting a further 30 seasonal staff members.

Together with Oonagh O’Hagan’s own social media accounts, Meaghers has a combined reach across social media channels of eight million people monthly.

Oonagh said: "Our 25th anniversary is a chance to celebrate everything our team and customers have helped us build, but it is also a moment to set a clear direction for the future.

"We want to help people not only when they are unwell, but to stay well and enjoy more years in good health.

“Community pharmacy has always been about much more than medicines.

"Our teams are trusted sources of care, compassion and advice, and they see every day the pressures people face in caring for themselves and their families. Our commitment to social prescribing and integrative health comes from that experience."

Darren Hardiman, managing director of Meaghers Pharmacy Group, said: "My job is to turn strategy into action.

"That means clear priorities, strong operational performance and using our commercial and digital capabilities to scale responsibly.

"I look forward to working with Oonagh and the wider team to deliver Meaghers’ next phase of growth.”
