Sinn Féin meets DfI on Claudy road safety issue

Sinn Féin representatives met with Department for Infrastructure officials to discuss road safety concerns in Claudy, amid calls for improved infrastructure and safety measures.
SINN Féin councillors, Fergal Leonard and Kathleen McGurk, have held a site meeting with a representative from the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) Roads Service to press for improvements to address growing safety concerns at the busy Claudy Crossroads junction.
In a statement following the meeting, they said: "We had requested this meeting to discuss the increasing number of accidents and near misses at the junction.
“We are pleased that the DfI representative took on board our concerns and committed to having the signage upgraded and the worn-out painted lines and boxes at the crossroads repainted in the immediate future as well as the legal and financial implications of any proposal to install traffic lights at the junction.
“The representative also agreed to our request to review road safety measures in the vicinity of the local schools following similar safety concerns that are being raised.”
