Leckpatrick WI celebrate 75th anniversary

The Leckpatrick Women's Institute gathered at the Bishop's Gate Hotel to celebrate their 75th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in the Institute's history.
LECKPATRICK Women’s Institute marked up another red letter day on October 13 with the celebration of their 75th anniversary.
To mark the occasion members gathered at the Bishop’s Gate Hotel in Londonderry.
After a sumptuous meal the special guests of honour, Rosemary McAllister, Federation deputy chairperson and Valerie McConnell, area chairperson, delivered greetings and congratulated the Leckpatrick Institute on their achievements over the years.
The members were much impressed and gratified by a poem written specially for the occasion by Mrs McConnell.
Appropriately, the theme of the monthly competition called for members to submit specimens of their skill and artistry in the shape of an anniversary card.

Marie O’Kane won first prize with second place going to Ethel Patterson.
Ethel was also congratulated on becoming an honorary member – only the second such honour to be awarded within the Institute since its establishment in 1951.
After the meal and speeches, pieces of the anniversary cake, baked by Alison McCrea, were distributed.
The special cake was a significant work of art in itself, carrying as it did a beautiful representation of the Institute logo.

This was followed by Leckpatrick’s very own version of the play, ‘The WI Quiz Final.’
Following several votes of thanks, the proceedings were brought to a close by the President of the Institute, Mrs Anne Smith.
